Rook’s Textbook of Dermatology (4 vol. set.)

Book Description:
The late Arthur Rook established the Textbook of Dermatology as the most comprehensive work of reference available to the dermatologist and it enjoys instant name recognition. Each subsequent edition has been expanded as the subject has developed and the book remains the ultimate source of clinical information for the trainee and practising dermatologist alike.Rook’s Textbook covers all aspects of skin disease from basic science through pathology and epidemiology to clinical practice. It has always been particularly highly regarded for its unparalleled coverage of diagnosis. Two new Editors, Dr Cox and Professor Griffiths, have been brought in to the team from complimentary backgrounds in clinical practice and research. The seventh edition contains three completely new chapters on immunodeficiency, AIDS and skin ageing. Many chapters have been completely rewritten from scratch, for example the chapter on molecular biology was thought to be too advanced for the general reader and will be made more introductory. Whilst the book’s traditional emphasis on diagnosis has been preserved, there has been an increased coverage of treatment in each of the disease chapters in response to minor criticisms that previous editions have been comparatively weak in this area.

Euthanasia: A Reference Handbook (Contemporary World Issues)

Book Description:
Grade 10 Up. Beginning with the early philosophers’ views on the right to die, this well-organized volume traces the history of and medical developments in euthanasia. Although some of the reading is slow going (laws and documents), the text is well written and objective. Case studies are presented in a straightforward manner and include extensive documentation and attributable quotes. The chapters dealing with euthanasia in other countries and biographical information on key figures are especially helpful. Other sections focus on periodicals, non-print material, organizations, and the Internet. The tables, graphs, and maps clearly present statistics that can often be confusing.

Radiology (Color Atlas of Dental Medicine, Vol 5)

Book Description:
Today, for patients of any age, a “panoramic” radiograph that allows high diagnostic reliability with minimum radiation exposure must be acknowledged as the standard of care. The new, more medically and legally “responsible” strategy for examination of patients is closely intertwined with a basic principle of patient care. Panoramic radiograph is rapidly becoming a meaningful and normal component of dental practice-oriented “prevention”. This Atlas presents the proper use of optimum radiographic exposure and contemporary techniques for today’s dental office. Emphasis is placed on the reliable recognition of normal structures in the projected space and clear differentiation of normal features from pathological radiographic signs. These major topics of fundamental importance for correct interpretation are treated more extensively. The section on diagnosis deals in depth with the typical radiographic manifestations of frequently occurring pathological processes. Inherent in that section of the book is the basic understanding that the radiopathologic manifestation of one and the same lesion may vary considerably depending on the patient’s age and sex, on the phase of development of the lesion at the time of documentation, on the localization within different surrounding structures, and according to actual histologic features of the lesion.

Atlas of Electromyography 2000

Book Description:

The Atlas of Electromyography is a visually alluring book which provides high quality anatomical illustrations of skeletal muscles that include nerve, plexus, and root supply; photographs of each muscle in healthy subjects to enable the practitioner to identify the optimum site of EMG needle insertion; clinical features of the major conditions affecting peripheral nerves; and electrodiagnostic strategies for confirming suspected lesions of the peripheral nervous system. The atlas is divided into sections on the major peripheral nerves. Each nerve is illustrated and its anatomy reviewed in the text. The authors provide a detailed outline of the clinical conditions and entrapment syndromes that affect the nerve, including a list of etiologies, clinical features, and electrodiagnostic strategies used for each syndrome. Each muscle supplied by the peripheral nerve is shown as an anatomical illustration with a corresponding human photograph. The text provides information about the muscle origin, tendon insertion, voluntary activation maneuver, and site of optimum needle insertion. The needle insertion point is identified in both the anatomical illustration and the corresponding photographs. This assures that pertinent bone, muscular, and soft tissue landmarks can be used to guide the electromyographer to a specific point on the skin. Potential pitfalls associated with the needle insertion are added, usually noting adjacent muscles or structures that may be mistakenly entered. Clinical correlates pertinent to the muscle being examined are also provided. The tlas of Electromyography serves as an anatomical guide for practitioners of electromyography and neurologists, as well as residents i neurology, physical medicine, and rehabilitation.
