Perfect for the clerkship and the USMLE Step 2, each case includes an extended discussion, definitions of key terms, clinical pearls, and USMLE-style review questions. This interactive learning system helps you to learn instead of memorize.

*60 ob/gyn cases with complete discussions
*Clinical pearls highlight key points
*USMLE-style comprehension questions with each case
*Primer on how to approach the patient
*Proven learning system improves shelf exam scores

“Superior to other case file books.”
–Chang-Kun Choi, Medical Student, Midwestern University School of Medicine

“Using clinical scenarios not only makes the reading fun and interesting, but it is far more engaging than sitting down with a bulleted text and reviewing detail after detail. This is a much better way to learn clinical information. I have not read a book like this before, and I certainly have enjoyed it.”
-–Eric Hossler, Medical Student, James H. Quillen College of Medicine

“I LOVED this book! I would recommend this book to all third-year students… The book uses a clinical approach and does not lose sight of the pathophysiology behind the disease — GREAT preparation for being on the wards! The subject matter is also deceptively detailed, with much more information than one normally finds in a text of case files. The reader can use this book as either a rigorous self-test or a read-through introduction to the subject. Once again - a GREAT text!”
-–Elizabeth Johnston, Medical Student, Emory University

Siemens Introduces the World's Smallest Ultrasound Device

ACUSON P10, an ultra portable ultrasound system for quick complementary diagnosis, has now been officially launched by Siemens:

The advantages of the new system are its portability, easy handling as well as its fast and consistent availability to the physician. The device is barely larger than a Blackberry and weighs just a little more than 700 grams.

In emergency situations, for example, this translates into earlier, faster and more accurate screening and triage decisions. Its emergency applications include FAST (Focused Abdominal Sonography for Trauma) for detecting fluid, determining cardiac activity and pericardial effusion as well as for detecting abdominal aortic aneurysms and performing pelvic exams.

"Instead of having to rush the patient to the technology, P10 brings the technology to the patient, which can reduce critical minutes, particularly when a patient is in cardiac distress or with trauma patients, who have multiple injuries," says Klaus Hambuechen, head of the Ultrasound Division of Siemens Medical Solutions. "The flexibility and portability of the P10 mark significant changes in the way diagnostic and emergency care are administered, changes that could alter the face of the physical exam and, ultimately, lead to better patient outcomes."

In addition to cardiac and emergency care, the ACUSON P10 offers applications in other medical specialties, most notably obstetrics where it can be used during labor and delivery. Specifically, the device can determine fetal viability, fetal positioning, amniotic fluid volume, bleeding and miscarriage.

Breast Cancer Management and Molecular Medicine

Book Description:

Molecular-based medicine is taking center stage due to the increasing knowledge of breast cancer molecular biology. Treatment tailoring is no longer a dream for the future, but the main goal of current research.

This book provides an overview of the most recent techniques, agents and approaches for breast cancer that contribute to the individualization of treatment. Current biomedical research focuses on facilitating the transfer of molecular biology knowledge into the clinical management of patients, leading to increased survival as well as improved quality of life. Particular attention is given in this book to organ-specific tailored approaches, specific populations, patients’ preferences and rehabilitation. Also discussed in depth are the respective roles of pharmacotherapeutics modelling, functional imaging, molecular staging, genomics and proteomics and their impact on the “re-classification” of breast cancer, as well as the clinical applications of basic science. The crucial issue of how to optimally integrate biological markers, new technologies and new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches into clinical trials and clinical practice is addressed.

Combining the contributions from authors who are well known experts in these fields with editorial comments, this book provides an overview of the latest achievements in breast cancer and their use in clinical practice.

Diagnosis of Endometrial Biopsies and Curettings: A Practical Approach

Book Description:
DIAGNOSIS OF ENDOMETRIAL BIOPSIES, Second Edition, revised and now with color illustrations, continues the tradition as being the most concise and complete diagnostic guide to the endometrial biopsy. A review from MODERN PATHOLOGY praises it as being “extremely useful for the practicing pathologist because it outlines criteria for diagnosis, helps in solving diagnostic diagnostic dilemmas, and clarifies controversial issues.” The text is structured to present a logical approach to formulating a pathologic diagnosis from the diverse array of tissue received in the surgical pathology laboratory. Color illustrations show typical artifacts and distortion and explain their impact on diagnostic interpretation. Each chapter includes a section on “Clinical Queries and Reporting” that summarizes the features that must be discussed in the final pathology report. The authors are two prominent gynecologic pathologists, and this book is derived from their long-running Short Course presented at the International Academy of Pathology.
